Grandma's House is closer to Our House

Well, we put the offer in for Grandma's house, did our due diligence (a general inspection and a stucco inspection), and sent the sellers our addendum to address concerns. They accepted the offer (after some negotiation) and accepted our addendum, so we are a few steps closer to owning the house. The next step is securing the loan, which is currently in process with SunTrust.

Here are some pictures of the house

Where did that stink bomb come from?

So, although I still just look like I've been eating too much junk food and haven't been doing my crunches, my pants are tight and my belly is sticking out a bit.

But what is that smell??

Okay, so I know this is a gross topic, but I have had the worst gas lately. It's not too bad in the morning, but by the night time my belly is so bloated, I look six months pregnant! Sometimes it is so bad that it hurts to stand up, and the only comfortable position is lying down with Nacho on my belly hoping to push it out. And when it comes out...clear the room! It is the worst smell I've ever smelled! I told you this was a gross topic!

Luckily my wonderful hubby can't smell very well, or he would be staying very far away from me at all times.

So add that to my list of pregnancy symptoms:
1. Peeing every hour
2. Bitter/nausea taste in my mouth every now and then
3. Exhausted all the time
4. Hungry more often than normal
5. Horrible, smelly gas

I can't wait for this trimester to be over!

Growing Pains

For the past two days, I have felt this strange sensation in my lower abdomen area. It feels like my insides are being stretched.

I'm not really liking it. It's not really painful, but annoying, and makes me want to itch the skin above the stretching feeling.

Right now, I don't really show (with clothes on at least). In fact, I can easily pull my transverse abdominus in and look like I have a completely flat stomach. But the stretching thing feels like I can actually feel my belly growing by the hour.

In the evenings, after dinner, my belly looks huge! It's probably because it is my biggest meal of the day and there is no where else for my food to go. In the morning, the little bump is still there, but not nearly as bad as the evening.

Last night, Rob was looking at my belly and said that it was "cool." It was poking out so much that my belly button was almost non-existent. He asked if I was exaggerating it any. I wasn't. The food might have been.

Measurements

This is week 10. I am currently 9 weeks and 1 day pregnant.

Since I am (perhaps overly) obsessed with health and weight management, I take my measurements every now and then to see how I'm doing. I've been doing this since 2008.

The baby is only about an inch and a half big right now, and my uterus is the size of a grapefruit (so they say). I'm not visably showing from the outside when I have clothes on. However, if I take my clothes off, you can definitely see a bit of a bulge beginning.

Before I got pregnant (October 29th, 2009) my measurements looked like this:
Waist - 24.5"
Bust - 30.5"
Hips - 36"
Theighs - 36"
Weight - 115 lbs. The weight figure is without clothes. This fluctuated a lot, based on the time of day and time of month. It would be anywhere from 115 to 119 in any given day.

The week that I found out that I was pregnant, I took my measurements again. I decided I'd try to do this at least once a month starting out. Maybe I'd do it with the same frequency as my doctor's appointments.

Week six of my pregnancy (December 24, 2009) my measurements looked like this:
Waist - 25.5"
Bust - 32"
Hips - 35"
Theighs - 35.5"
Weight - 120 lbs
I had gone up an inch in my waist, an inch and a half in my bust, and gone down in both hips and theighs (which I'm perfectly fine with!!) I believe this weight figure is with clothes, but without shoes. Unfortunately, I didn't weigh myself as I normally did this time.

Week ten (today) I took my measurements again. This is what they look like now:
Waist - 27"
Bust - 32.5"
Hips - 35"
Theighs - 36.5"
Weight - 119.2 lbs
So, my waist and bust have continued to grow. My theighs went up this time, much to my dismay (why do your theighs grow when pregnant?).

My pants are definitely tighter than normal. It is hard for me to wear jeans now and sit down. I'm fine when I stand up or lay down, but sitting is not easy. Luckily my work pants aren't uncomfortable to wear yet.

After I eat a regular-sized meal, my belly sticks out a lot. It looks like Thanksgiving dinner every time. I guess there is no where else for my food to go anymore with my uterus in the way. I've also had some gas problems (TMI?) that make me bloated and my belly big.

It's amazing how many changes your body goes through during this process. I'm just hoping I can finish the Myrtle Beach Marathon in a few weeks.

Grandma's house - the perfect 10

Well, I think we found it - the house that we are actually going to buy!

Friday, we went looking at several other houses with our realtor. I figured, just in case the bank doesn't accept our offer for the Georgetown Park house, we don't want to put all our eggs in one basket. Especially since, house or not, we have to move out of our apartment by March 5th.

We looked at seven different houses in the course of 2.25 hours. It was quite a whirlwind. The second to the last house was what we dubbed "Grandma's house," also known as the house at 4877 Duncan Wood Drive in Duluth.

Grandma's house got its name from 1) the floral wallpaper and quilts on the beds, and 2) the pillow on the couch that said "Grandmas are Love." It pretty much just looks like a grandma's house - comfy and cozy.

I love it! It has four bedrooms and two full baths upstairs, a partially finished basement with enough room for a workout room and extra spare bed, a nice open kitchen with lots of cabinets and counter space, a fenced in backyard, a breakfast area and formal dining room, and a sitting room that we will make into an office. There are half baths on both the main and basement levels. For pictures, check out this website. I didn't take any of my own pictures because there were so many homes we saw that night.

The other house (Georgetown Park) is in a better location (for both schools and commute to work) and we would have more equity starting off, since it is a short sale. But there's no guarantee we will be able to get it and/or close when we want to. Alternatively, Grandma's house just makes me feel good inside. When I saw the house, I just knew that was where we should be. I hadn't felt that way with any of the other houses we have looked at.

So, now we start the paperwork. We have to withdraw our offer on the other house and submit an offer for Grandma's house. All this, and our realtor just went on vacation for ten days in Miami. So we will have to work with her remotely or work with her co-worker, whom we've never met.

Either way, I am excited about possibly calling Grandma's house my home.

No Rest for the Weary

It has gotten harder and harder to sleep at night. I know it's going to be bad in the third trimester, with that big belly making it difficult to find a comfortable position. But I never thought it would be as hard this early. I don't even show yet, and I haven't been comfortable enough to sleep well.

I have been trying to teach myself to lay on my left side, since apparently that is the side that is best for pregnant ladies to sleep on. The baby doesn't press against the Inferior Vena Cava (the vein that returns blood from the feet to the heart) when lying on the left side. It doesn't really matter right now, but since I'm so used to sleeping on my right side, I thought I would try to get used to sleeping on the other side.

Well, all it's doing is making it harder for me to sleep. When I take naps on the couch, I'm fine, because I can't really turn over anyway. But when I try to sleep at night, it isn't working.

Last night, for example, I actually slept well from 9:30 to 12:30. Then after I woke up to pee (another annoying sleep interrupter) I couldn't get back to sleep. I wasn't wide awake or anything. I was actually exhausted. But my body didn't want to fall into a nice sleep to rid it of the exhaustion.

Speaking of exhaustion...that's about all I have these days. I'm constantly tired. At work, all I do is watch the clock hoping I can get home to take a nap soon. My previously happy eyes have nothing but sleepiness in them. When I do get home, I have no energy to do the things I need to do (like brush the dog's teeth, call the Evangelism Committee Chair, go to the track to run my speedwork, etc). I can't stop yawning.

At least I get to sleep in tomorrow.

6120 Georgetown Park

Well, I met our realtor at 6120 Georgetown Park today. This is the short sale house that has to have a contract on it by Friday. Our realtor got a little more information from the seller's agent. Apparently, the seller agent thinks he could talk the bank into accepting an offer with a net of $200k, which is what we want to pay. He currently has another offer which is lower than $200k, but he doesn't think that offers much lower than $200k are going to work out. He said if we get him an offer by Wednesday, then they should have a response for us from the bank in about 10business days.

After seeing the house, there are definitely some pros and cons to it.

The Pros:
1. There is a lot of counter space in both the kitchen and bathrooms.
2 There is a lot of closet space in all of the bedrooms with His and Hers closets in the Master.
3. The bedrooms are all a really good size.
4. The living room is a good size living room.
5. The house has a decent sized fenced backyard.
6. It is a newer house, so less maintenance (hopefully).
7. It's in a great location.

The Cons:
1. There is no basement. It does have two extra rooms on the main level that could serve as an office and a workout room, but that would bring the house down to 3 livable bedrooms.
2. The fireplace is gas. Rob prefers a woodburning, gas starter fireplace
3. The range is gas. I could live with this, but definitely prefer electric.
4. There is an interesting sink hole looking thing in backyard right next to a manhole looking thing. It is far enough away from the house, that I don't think it would be an issue, but it appears that the rain run-off might go that direction, which could eventually get bigger. The realtor is going to do some digging to see what she can find out about this.
5. The home has no refrigerator, so that would be a major appliance we would have to purchase.
6. There are mandatory HOA dues ($40/month) for the "swim/tennis." The realtor and I drove around and could easily locate the tennis court, but could not find a pool.
7. There is no deck, but it does have a patio.
8. There is no real porch on the front. Rob likes big front porches.

More to come later.

The Home Hunt Begins

I have wanted to live in Tampa for the past two years. Every time it gets cold (which does happen in Atlanta), I am wishing I was in Tampa. No matter how cold it is in Atlanta, it's usually about 20 degrees warmer in Tampa.

We have been doing some praying and seeking God's will for where we should live. At this time, we feel he is wanting us to stay put.

With that being said, we have started the search for the perfect home to raise our new baby. We have decided mostly on the Duluth/Norcross area for a couple of reasons:
1. Duluth is where Rob's parents live. Although I wouldn't ask them to do anything that would put a burden on them or create any arrangement that couldn't be easily dissolved, it would be really nice if his mom could help with childcare a couple days during the week. If nothing else, they are close-by to provide weekend babysitting services as needed.
2. Norcross is where our church is. I would love to be in a community where I could feel comfortable inviting people to church. Where we live now, I can invite people to church, but they would have to drive 20 minutes to a different city, which seems kinda silly when there are other churches closer to them. I feel I could be more effective in outreach if I lived in the community that I go to church in.
3. There are options available in Duluth/Norcross area in our price range.

What we are looking for is a 3+ bedroom, 2.5+ bath house with a basement (preferably finished so I can put a workout room down there), a fireplace (preferably woodburning with a gas starter), that isn't too old (maybe built in the 80s or after), with lots of closet space. Closet space is key! I also prefer an electric range and plenty of counterspace in both the kitchen and bathrooms.

That's a lot to ask for under $200k - even in this economy.

We had five picked out to look at yesterday. Unfortunately, our favorite house was put under contract on Friday, so that one was marked off the list. Our realtor couldn't get in touch with the seller for one of them. So we looked at the other three.
3344 ROUNDFIELD CIRCLE, Duluth
The house was nice, but not exactly what we were looking for. There was a lot of water from the snow that was draining down the yard and into the garage, so that was a concern.

4500 Hopkins Run Dr, Duluth
Better than the last house. Actually the best of the three. But the closet space was lacking big time. So on to the next one.

4674 Rippling Brook Ct, Norcross This house actually had the best floorplan, but was in a bad neighborhood. The house looked like a foreclosure, as it wasn't cleaned at all.

So three strikes so far and our search continues.

We found some more that we are interested in and hope to see sometime in the near future:
1. 6120 Georgetown Park Drive, Norcross is in a great location, but is a short sale. Our realtor said that short sales take 2-6 months to close. We think it goes into foreclosure if there's not an acceptable offer by Friday, so we may look at it after that.
Others we like are:
2. Duncan Wood Dr
3. E Meadow Dr
4. Honeycomb Way
5. Scotts Mill Run

More to come as details unfold.

First Official Appointment

Today Robby and I went to the doctor's office for our first official appointment.

Everything is going well so far. The baby is the right size (measurements estimate it to be 7w3d - one day smaller than the due date based on my LMP). It's in the right place. The heartbeat is 170bpm. Everything went smoothly...until the bloodwork.

OMG, can you say "torture?" How many stinkin' viles are you going to fill up? I don't have THAT much blood!

Truth be told, I cried through the whole experience. Robby was sitting next to me holding my free arm as I sobbed into his shoulder. If there is anything that will keep me from even thinking about having another baby, it is the bloodwork.

I can take pain. I have run marathons and lived to tell it. Those last few miles are pure torture with every muscle in your body aching and your lungs feeling like they are burning out of your chest (at least my first marathon was like that). I know it is going to be painful to push this darn baby out of my tiny little body. But that doesn't scare me. It's the needles that scare me.

According to the midwife, she has done totally natural births with no IVs and no needles with healthy, low-risk pregnancies. That is what I'm shooting for. You better not come near me with a needle unless I am about to actually die. And don't even think about bringing the scalpal. Hmm-mmm, not gonna happen.

Anyway, here are the pictures from the ultrasound.

And Then There Were Four

So, we started off keeping the secret from everyone but Sweta (since she already knew). Now four couples know.

I told my sister over Christmas, because she wouldn't be in town for the announcement in February.

Then on Friday when we had Christmas with the Simons/Andersons I decided to tell Allison/Eric. I felt it was only fair that one person in Rob's family knew if my sister knew. Plus, she would be a good support if something happens, and I end up miscarrying.

Rob also told his boss, because he wanted to try to work out the schedule so he can come to the doctor with me on Thursday.

So now four people know (and their spouses).

After telling Allison on Friday, I got a text from her on Saturday saying that I was never going to believe it. She had been having some nausea the past two nights and was two days late. It turns out, after I told her I was pregnant and put the thought in her head, she took a test and is pregnant too!

Last year, during our Alaska cruise, the goal was for both of us to get pregnant. That way we could have cousins around the same age and they could play and all that. Plus, we could go through the pregnancy together. Well, last year, I didn't get pregnant, and two months into Allison's pregnancy, she lost the baby.

I didn't really want to ask her about when they were going to start trying again, because I didn't want to bring up any bad memories. It is a sensitive subject, miscarrying. She had a very hard time with it, and now (more than ever) I can understand why.

Allison's due date (based on her LMP) is August 30th, 8 days after mine. Garrett was 8 days early, so it is very possible that our little ones could have the same birthday. It's also possible that she could have hers before I have mine, since the second usually comes earlier than the first.

Can I say that I'm a little jealous? I really have no reason to be, since we hadn't been really trying anymore. This pregnancy was a bit of a surprise to me, a welcome surprise. But once it happened, I had expected it to be just me. All attention to me and my new baby, my first baby. I'm already the second on both sides of the family to have kids, so I don't get the joy/excitement/spoiling of having the first grandchild. And to top it all off, I can't even have my own little moment anymore, but instead have to share it with my sister-in-law.

However, in the grand scheme of things I am super excited that we are both going to have a baby at the same time. I now have someone to go through this with, who knows what I'm going through, and who has been through it once before. I'm hoping that it will bring the two of us (Allison and me) closer together. The baby will automatically have a little cousin his/her age to play with, get in trouble with, and enjoy life with. It reminds me of when I was little, and my cousin Julie would come over to visit.

The benefits far outweigh the reasons for jealousy.
